Movement Issue 35
ase Finlay drives through a thick-lipped, icy carport on the cover, looking as comfortable as ever in the United Kingdom. Finlay, Thom Robinson, Chris James, James Kates, manager Ryan Mattick and the phenomenon that is James "Koots" Kayley took to the North Atlantic in a van for three and battled snow, Guinness and fiery women, as well as some more than their fair share of ridiculous waves. Part one and two feature in Issue 35 with part three to be released with Issue 36. Here in Memoirs of a Virgin Viking the crew spill the beans on the highs and lows.
Blow-ins of a different sort took to King Island off Tasmania. Long-time rivals Damian King and Ben Player were accompanied by Tassie's up and comings on a recent mission and learnt the art of hitting a lip in gale-force winds and how used to warm waters they really are.
Yet another blow-in. Gold Coast's James Adams met a girl in Hawaii and spent the last summer living over there. Armed with a camera, he took to the streets shooting the homeless and as well as doing his documentary photography continued shooting waves. Postscript to the Postcards brings you Adams' commentary and photoessay on the homeless in Hawaii as well as the best of Adams' water shots.
Dave Hubb, along with his brother Jeff and Mike Stewart (and Skipp, Romero, McGee, and so on, let's not start) are the most celebrated Hawaiian bodyboarders today. Dubb originally went over to Reunion Island to hang with current World Champ Amaury Lavernhe and check out a surf and music festival but ended up staying a month. We talked him, Reunion and the festival.
Ever wondered what it's like to be mentored by Mike? To get daily motivational emails from the Godfather? Drew Innocend, a Sunny Coast kid with balls and steez, does just that. Innocend is part of the new generation that grew up with Mike in the background and guys like Rawlins and Hardy front and centre. He spills the beans on the Sunny Coast, girls, Hawaii and motivational emails.
A few dudes hit the Australian desert in search of waves. Along the way they, uh, kind of lost their shit. They did score, though, and we tell the greatest coast-to-coast story ever told.
Also included is the summer accessory guide, Cade Sharp, Evan Deverian, Gregg Taylor and enough imagery to keep you through to the Annual, due for release soon.
It's the festive season and good riddance do we have a feast!
